Environment
Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are one of the most efficient and sustainable construction materials, both during manufacture and construction and long after.
SIP panels are traditionally made with processed timber panels (OSB); as we know, Timber is a renewable resource and one that uses five times less energy to produce than concrete and up to six times less than steel! The outer faces of the panels are made using oriented strand board (OSB) using young, fast-growing trees from plantations managed by the FSC.
SIPs are also manufactured using around 40% less timber than traditional methods, making them cost-efficient and less damaging to manufacture for the environment.
In addition to their sustainable manufacture, SIP panels greatly increase the thermal efficiency of buildings thanks to their low U-Value, with values as low as 0.15W/m²K being achieved. These Thermo efficient insulating properties reduce the need for gas or electric heating (up to 60% less energy needed) which in turn works at decreasing the levels of harmful CO2 emissions as well as generating annual financial savings by reducing heating bills. Buildings that use less energy are also contributing to a reduction in fossil fuel use and carbon emissions.
SIP modular buildings also improve indoor air quality.
As a supply and manufacturing company are committed to being as sustainable as possible throughout every stage of the SIP panel process from the goods we receive to the goods we dispatch and how we install them.
Not only do we ensure all our timber is sourced from PEFC, SFI and FSC certified suppliers, but we also strive to keep our environmental impact and waste to a minimum during manufacture by recycling material back into the manufacturing process where possible and actively aiming to reduce excess landfill waste.
Our ongoing environmental impact is constantly reviewed, and we Invest in new and efficient ways to minimise further waste and the use of non-sustainable materials and invest in our company processes so we can lower our carbon footprint.
Reduced Heat Loss
SIPs can outperform other building methods in virtually every environmental category because the insulation is a core component of the system rather than an add-on.
Timber is naturally low in thermal conductivity and it’s 15 times better as an insulator than concrete, 400 times better than steel and 1770 times better than aluminium.
Improved Energy efficiency
Building with SIPs can reduce carbon dioxide emissions from homes. Currently, 27% of Britain’s carbon dioxide emissions is attributed to leakages from homes.
This can be significantly reduced by lowering down domestic energy consumption and well-insulated SIPs panels are the ideal solution.
